From Roman Colesium to Birds Nest
Since our depressing and disappointing 5th place at the world rowing championships in Eton last month.
I have been on a holiday in Rome, to stand in oar at the coliseum where mentally I went back in time to see how they originally competed for 1st place or death! Which was the 2nd place option. It seemed to put my living 5th place in prospective for me.
Although there could be something to be said, for competing next year in Munich world rowing championships racing like it is life or death situation.
The following week until I was actually standing with my head tilted as far back as it would go, jaw opened at the foot of Olympic stadium in Beijing labeled (the birds nest) comparing the two and the 2000? years that span them it was two amazing structures I had witnessed within a week I felt very fortunate. The bird’s nest, which is obvious to see why it has been labeled this name, this is sure to follow as one of the most amazing structures in the world. A few moments later I was standing (in) finish line at the 2008 rowing lake, as it was not yet filled with water. The sandy bottom to the course gave me a good chance to physically scribe the finish line into the sand, and then I stepped back and look at this line and took a moment to think for a second.
There is a saying that when you need to be mentally strong (you draw a line in sand) I have just done that mentally and physically now. This will be a very defining line in two years time.
