Today the Egg & Spoon race tomorrow the Olympic Final

I felt there has been a lot of attention in the media recently concerning both childrens’ health and the Olympic Games so with this in mind lets talk about combining both. The above heading you may feel is quite extreme but I think it is spot on. My own realization of this was when I was 19. Maybe if I had this mind set when I was actually doing the egg and spoon race at the age of 8 I may have achieved more. Having that dream from a young age is extremely important. My dream has not yet been realized but that does not mean it is not worth following.

The other thing that people do not consider when striving for a dream is that you may have failures and successes within this dream but this in itself is what it is really all about. Being able to learn from these successes and failures and then to move on and ask yourself the Question - “Can I be even better?”

With the increase of childhood obesity to new record levels the Government has re-introduced the weighing of primary school children and informing parents if they are obese. If more children had sporting role models they would not have to be told that they need to lose weight if they are really dreaming of being an internationl swimmer, runner, high jumper, diver, boxer or even rower. If they have an Olympic dream they would be following their idols in their chosen sport and observing their physique, diet, training schedule etc, and would soon realize that a Sumo wrestler would never make a high jumper.
